Empowering Change Through the Youth Parliament

On 21 February 2025, the students of Ramagondanahalli Government School hosted their first-ever Youth Parliament—a powerful example of how student-led initiatives and mentorship programs can foster meaningful civic engagement and leadership development.

This initiative was brought to life through the dedication and commitment of five students from Inventure Academy who served as mentors, helping peers at RGH navigate the complexities of public dialogue, critical thinking, and democratic participation.

Introduction

Youth Parliaments have become a dynamic platform for students to engage with issues that affect their communities, explore governance structures, and develop leadership skills in real-world settings. This event marked a milestone for RGH students as they took center stage to debate policies, propose solutions, and emulate the democratic process.

The Vision Behind the Youth Parliament

The idea was simple yet powerful—equip students with the tools they need to express their voices, understand civic systems, and become agents of change in their own right. This aligns with Inventure Academy’s broader mission to cultivate student leadership, nurture curiosity, and encourage active participation in community involvement.

The Youth Parliament model emphasizes the importance of critical thinking skills, communication, collaboration, and extracurricular activities that build well-rounded learners.

Inventure Academy’s Role in Mentoring Future Leaders

This initiative was made possible through the efforts of five student mentors from Inventure Academy:
Aditya Narayan, Siddhanth Sarvanan, Siddharth Venkatesh, Aadi Gupta, and Lasya Mohan Verma.

Over the course of several months, these mentors dedicated time on weekends and after school to train RGH students in debate, dialogue, and democratic procedures. They also supported RGH faculty in understanding the structure of a Youth Parliament and in co-planning the event.

This hands-on mentorship program for students gave Inventure students the opportunity to deepen their own understanding while empowering others—showing that true leadership is not about being in charge, but about lifting others up.

Key Highlights of the Event

The Youth Parliament at RGH featured role-play simulations where students assumed the roles of legislators, ministers, and civic leaders. The agenda focused on issues relevant to the local context, including:

  • Understanding urban challenges in Bengaluru
  • Exploring short-term and long-term solutions to waste management
  • Balancing development with environmental sustainability

These topics showcased students’ analytical thinking, their ability to connect theory with The Inventure Academy Youth Parliament practice, and their growing awareness of their responsibility as young citizens.

Impact on Students and the Community

The event had a transformative impact on both the participants and their mentors. For RGH students, it was a confidence-building experience—they learned how to think on their feet, articulate their opinions, and understand diverse perspectives.

For Inventure Academy students, this was a chance to lead with empathy, refine their PBL in Action skills, and witness the power of educational initiatives beyond their own school walls.

This model of community involvement through student mentorship creates ripples that go far beyond the event—it encourages collaboration, equity in education, and a spirit of shared responsibility.

Looking Ahead: Encouraging More Student-Led Initiatives

This Youth Parliament is just the beginning. It proves that when given the right guidance, students—regardless of background—are capable of creating positive social change. Inventure Academy will continue to support similar student-led initiatives and expand its efforts to partner with government schools, NGOs, and civic bodies.

These experiences not only enhance academic growth but build real-world competencies that today’s learners need to become tomorrow’s leaders.
