The biggest career turn for a student comes up when a student completes the board exam of 10th. This phase comes with the dilemma of choosing major subjects such as commerce and science. In today’s fastest-growing world, staying ahead of the curve in various aspects is essential. Students have an option open for various exams post-10th, such as competitive exam preparation in different areas.
When it comes to competitive exams such as UPSC and preparation for banking exams, it requires determination, resilience, consistency, hard work, you name it. However, managing it alongside the school curriculum can be challenging.
Understanding the Exam Syllabus and Pattern
To begin a competitive exam preparation strategy, the first thing is to know the entire syllabus and its pattern in depth. Not all competitive exams are the same, as they include different lists of topics to study. Once a student is well-versed with the syllabus and pattern, the journey gets much easier, as they can focus on important sections effectively.
Effective Study Plan and Time Management
A well-designed plan is necessary to carry out anything in life, including proper planning for competitive exam preparation. A diligently designed study schedule is crucial to keep track of the progress made in preparation. It will eventually help you stick to your study goals efficiently.
You need to work on creating a meticulously designed competitive exam preparation strategy to study for the exam you are preparing for. The strategy must also consider your school schedule. It will eventually help you get organized.
Moreover, it is rightly said, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”
Indeed, a small play break is also vital for getting mentally energized to increase focus on studies.
Managing School and Competitive Exam Preparation Simultaneously
Students must be hyperactive to prepare for the competitive exams along with school. One of the best tips to remain active is to have a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. It will help you concentrate on school and study techniques during the coaching.
All you need to learn is to manage time efficiently. This will help you become well-versed in managing competitive exams, school timing, and self-study.
Apart from a balanced diet, you must also note that freeing yourself from distractions such as the phone is important. You can easily manage this distraction by not touching the phone during study hours. In this way, you will be able to manage everything wisely.
Also, indulging in different activities, such as hands-on learning , is necessary to explore science, nature, and creativity.
Best Resources and Study Materials for Competitive Exams:
Another important factor to consider is learning from the right study materials. Choosing the best study materials is important for school studies and competitive exams. You must watch the best-recommended books to take your career to the next level.
In today’s digital era, it is also quite easy to download notes from the internet according to your requirements and subjects.
One of the best competitive exam preparation tips is solving previous papers and mock tests online. This will give you the gist of questions asked in question papers, and accordingly, you will be charting the course of studies.
The best advantage of solving different sets of mock tests and last year’s papers is to know where you stand in the competitive exam’s preparation. It will further help you to focus on areas where you need improvement before the exams.
Role of coaching vs self-study:
For an effective competitive exam preparation strategy, you must balance coaching, self-study, and school timing. It is vital to maintain this balance to reach your desired goals.
Moreover, top-notch coaching institutes provide meticulously designed study materials to help students do their self-study effectively. It makes the road to competitive exam preparation much easier.
You must create a timetable to avoid missing out on coaching, school timetables, and self-study. Students need to create a thorough study plan for the day. A well-crafted plan includes coaching hours, school time, self-study, quality time with friends and loved ones, etc.
How do you stay consistent and motivated?
Consistency and self-motivation are 2 important pillars to reach any heights in life. The same goes for studying competitive exam preparation material. Being consistent and dedicated will help you achieve success in competitive exams easily. However, it depends on the student to choose the place to study, i.e., a table and desk, on the bed, at the library, or in the garden near home, you name it. However, enhancing the concentration towards studies is crucial. A student can do wonders in competitive exams with proper planning of study place, timetable, school timing, and coaching.
Effective Revision Strategies:
It is not just the studies at coaching and self-study that you need to stop before appearing for competitive exams- the next crucial factor to remember after the study is the rounds of revision. For efficiency in revision, you need to inculcate the habit of jotting down important notes during coaching. This way, you can easily revise the notes 2-3 times before the exams. Whenever you have any doubts about coaching, clear them up by having a word with your teacher.
In addition, as you begin revising the course with the help of your notes, you will have different doubts and questions in mind. All the doubts can be later resolved by talking to your teacher conveniently. Revising is the best method to clarify the concept while taking a competitive exam.
Common Mistakes to Avoid while Preparing for Competitive Exams
- Planning without executing:
One of the common mistakes students tend to make is non-execution of the plans. To pass with flying colors, you need to stick to the study plan daily.
- Seeking self-motivation from other sources:
Another mistake to avoid is seeking self-motivation from other sources. To succeed in competitive exams, you must find self-motivation within yourself. Nobody can motivate you in a way you can motivate yourself in any area of life. Even if you feel low sometimes, remember when you gave your best, and you will get that momentum going.
- Getting attracted to distractions: One of the biggest distractions a student faces is the phone, etc. All you need to do is keep your distractions at bay while studying. In this way, you will improve much-needed focus on your studies.
Another way students tend to distract themselves is by studying from numerous sources, which further leads to a confusing state of mind. To handle this challenge, you must study from the right and reliable sources of competitive exam preparation material recommended to you at coaching.
